There are many materials from which stools are built. At first, wood was used as the basic material. With time the designers started combinations between wood, which was used in 80 percent of the stool bar and 20 percent insertion of metal. In time, the elements of chrome have become more attractive and wood was replaced in many cases in 100 percent with metal.
A contemporary style calls for sleek modern lines. You can get interesting stools in chrome or steel that will go great with chrome appliances. If your kitchen has the dark mysterious look, try adding bar stools with a black finish. To add some zip you can use bar stools that have a funky design, or if you aren`t that adventurous, try some with a half back or V shaped legs.
Most stools are designed to go under or near a bar. The height of the bar will determine the height of the bar stool. You ideally need enough room for a person to sit comfortably, legs crossed on the stool while under or near your breakfast bar.
A great new style that is becoming increasingly popular is the wooden saddle bar stool. These stools have a longer, rectangular seat, and the middle is lower than the ends. Many people feel that these stools are more comfortable than normal wooden stools.
If you are going with an ethnic, earthy sort of kitchen like a Tuscan or Mexican style you might look at wrought iron bar stools. They come with designs on the backs, arms and legs that range from really scrolly to just slightly. With upholstered seats, these can be covered to match the colors in your kitchen.
Some padded stools not only come with seat and back padding but, padded arms as well. Depending on the type of stool you purchase you can get a wide variety of colors of padding and many different styles of bar stools. There are even padded stools for outside use. Many of the outside stools have padding that can be tied on and removed for easy cleaning.
A bar is supposed to make you feel relaxed and comfortable. After a hard day`s work, it`s a place that a person is supposed to be able to unwind conveniently with a couple of drinks and possibly make idle conversation. Of course, there are people who transact business in bars but those are the exception. The majority of customers go there to relax and I don`t think there is anyone that loves to seat on hard stools in a bar while sipping his or her drinks-I don`t! However it`s common enough to find such bars, a problem easily rectified with stool cushions.
For tropical themed kitchens you can choose from a wide selection of bar stools that will compliment your look. First you can go with a plain bamboo or rattan if your kitchen is very informal. If you are going for more of a fun look, you can try metal bar stools that have a palm tree or other tropical style cutout or similar stools that are painted on the backs with tropical designs.
